What’s your life purpose? How to discover it and build your life around it.
Whether you’re embarking on a self-discovery journey or simply dissatisfied with your daily life this is something worth investigating for sure.
From a spiritual point of view, your life purpose is to evolve by going through all your life (or lives, if like me you believe in reincarnation) experiences. I always say that Planet Earth is a school and we’re the pupils. Another key factor to live a purposeful life is finding out who you really are and have the courage to be that person.
Knowing what your purpose is very important to be able to Create The Life you want
The majority of people though see their life purpose as a “calling” and most of the times want to tie that to a career path or job.
This is one way to go about it, but not the only one and you shouldn’t worry if your life purpose (or what you think it may be) doesn’t seem to be related to your profession. Neither should you try to turn it into one at all costs. Life purpose and occupation may coincide, but as with everything in life it’s not a rule.
For example, you may have always loved animals more than anything else and felt called to protect them and therefore decided to become a veterinarian; alternatively, despite your strong bond with them you may have chosen a totally different career and be a lawyer, or an accountant and yet devote all your spare time and resources into fostering dogs.
Not only your life purpose is unique to you but is also entirely your choice how you choose to embrace it and embody it. Nobody can or should tell you what to do with your life or what makes you happy.
Does discovering your life purpose mean finding out what makes you happy and do that?
Yes and no.
To give you a better answer let’s look at the many different ways in which you can uncover your life purpose.
Know what you stand for
What causes do you believe in?
What do you actively do to support them?
What would you risk your reputation for?
Answering these simple questions could already help you identify some of your core values and highlight what truly matters to you.
Some people find purpose in a cause and devote themselves to it.
You may have the desire to fight for human or animal rights, protect the environment or raise awareness around a sensitive topic.
Fighting for what you believe in is a very noble way to live life and will definitely fill you with purpose and passion.

What you’re passionate about is not random
Speaking of passion, think about what you do in your spare time.
How do you relax and unwind?
What’s that one activity you immerse yourself into to the point of losing track of time?
What are you an “expert” in? (friends and family come to you for advice on that).
The things you’re passionate about are not random and can shed a light on what your life purpose may be. If you’re truly passionate about something you know exactly what I’m talking about and It shouldn’t be hard to answer these questions. If it is, you may want to look at how you spend your free time and try and do more of what you say you love.
Keep in mind that what you post or like on social media or what you talk about but never really do it’s not your real “passion” or hobby.
The image you like to project onto others or the things you like to believe about yourself are not the same as what you actually do every day.
Strengths and talents may hold the clue
What are some of your best skills?
What do you always get complimented on?
What are your best achievements?
What you’re good at can also be the clue to finding your own path.
We may not always be good at what we love (think of how many people love to sing or play football but aren’t talented enough to do it professionally), but it’s almost impossible to find someone who’s exceptionally good at something yet doesn’t like doing it!
I believe we do a disservice to ourselves and the world if we don’t share our gifts with others and I can assure you that EVERYONE has talents, all we need to do is uncover them.
Uncovering your strengths and talents may not always be easy on your own, especially if you’re still young or haven’t received any valuable feedbacks.
Think about your struggles
What are the biggest challenges you had to face in your life?
How did you overcome them?
What did you learn from that?
Fighting a battle against an illness, growing up in a difficult environment (country or family), dealing with major setbacks or unfair treatments are just a few examples of what life can throw at us. Overcoming your own personal challenges strengthens your character and may drive you to help others in the same condition. Your struggles can influence your choice of career or inspire you to create a product or service to solve a specific problem you faced.

Even if you’ll never really find it (or recognize it!), the search itself will give you meaning and will by default keep you growing and learning.
As with all the journeys, in the end, it’s not the destination that matters the most, but all that you experience while trying to get there.
